IGC File Splitter

IGC File

Help

The IGC Log File Splitter will split your GPS track into multiple files. Very handy if you've been doing circuits all day and each student wants their individual track. Or if you want to trim off a big long bit of 'sitting on the ground'.

Useful with Garmins

Garmin GPS units have a limit of 10,000 data points on the internal memory. If your Garmin supports a Micro SD card, you can set it to record an unlimited number of points onto the data card as well. The files are stored by day, with one file per day, so you can use this splitter to split the file up.

  1. Under "Main Menu" -> "Tracks" -> "Setup" -> "Data Card Setup" make sure "Log track to Data Card" is checked.
  2. With this checked, anytime the Garmin is on, it will record onto the data card, Even if your internal memory is full.
  3. To get the file off the Garmin, you need to connect to your computer via USB cord and choose "Main Menu" -> "Setup" -> "Interface" -> "USB Mass Storage". This will basically turn the Garmin into a rather chunky USB memory stick.
  4. Find the file you need. They are created 1 file per day, and the filename is the date YYYYMMDD.gpx
  5. This splitter needs files in IGC format. to convert the file from GPX to IGC format use GPSBabel
